March 7th Meeting: Liston Matthews will speak on Gun Rights

Please join the club in welcoming Liston Matthews, Knoxville Gun Rights Examiner.  Mr. Matthews will be speaking on "The Error/Danger of Gun Control Hysteria".

Meeting will be at the Frullati Cafe - Dinner at 6:30 PM, Meeting at 7:30 PM.

Liston Matthews grew up shooting, bird hunting with his grandfather, and squirrel hunting in the family pecan orchard. Although grateful for the opportunity to hunt big game in Wyoming and Colorado, he recognizes that the Founders did not have sport shooting in mind when they drafted the Second Amendment. They had just endured a bloody war of independence from Great Britain, and desired that the citizenry be capable of resisting a tyrannical government with arms equivalent to what the soldier bore.

He believes that the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are the supreme law of the land in the United States, and that the Second Amendment does not grant, but recognizes and affirms the right to self-preservation divinely granted to man. Any contrary law is, in fact, unconstitutional.

Having taken the oath to the Constitution, he is extremely disappointed to see modern day politicians take a similar oath, and then ignore it.
He has been involved in the gun rights movement since 1971. He was involved in passage of the original Tennessee carry law, and its improvements. He has testified before local legislative bodies, contacted countless politicians and had numerous editorial letters published. He believes that politicians must be carefully vetted at the local level, because few become more conservative when they move to higher office.

He believes that, given the history of politicians sometimes changing their allegiance from their constituency to their peers in the legislative body, they should be carefully watched and changed periodically.

He writes a column for the Examiner online as the Knoxville Gun Rights Examiner, and a conservative blog at Good Hill Press.

He can be contacted at listont@gmail.com

Update on Website.

Folks,  I apologize for not keeping the website up to date over the past 2 months.  I am responsible for it not being up and ruining my 40 plus month streak of keeping it up.

With that said, we should have a new / modern Website up within 30 to 45 days.  More interesting, better layout, and modern.  Like all other website expenses, this is my in-kind contribution to the club in addition to membership.  Let me know if you have any questions.
